Our Services

TransitCare is an innovative, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing transport and social support services to assist frail and elderly people, the socially isolated and people with disabilities so that they can live independently in their own homes and remain connected to their communities.

We provide transport to clients in Brisbane South, Logan and Redlands Cities and Townsville and surrounding areas.

I would like to remain independent

At TransitCare, we understand that having to rely on family and friends to get around can be difficult.  We know that you would prefer to live independently, surrounded by friendly faces, local shops and a familiar environment.

There are many reasons why you no longer drive or feel you can take public transport. These include:

  • Reaching the stage where driving a car is a chore, or no longer even possible
  • Feeling comfortable driving in your local area but not feeling safe driving along major roads and freeways
  • Having a disability or condition that prevents you from driving
  • Not having access to public transport, or it may be inconvenient
  • The cost of parking at the major hospitals, which can be unaffordable and the drive there challenging

If you have reached a point in your life where you feel you need extra assistance getting about, why not catch a Community Flyer and leave the driving to us!

Phone 1300 153 636 and talk to our TransitCare team today.

I need assistance with transport

What is a Community Flyer?

The public face of TransitCare is undoubtedly our distinctive Community Flyers. This fleet of fully customised vehicles includes cars, wheelchair accessible vehicles and buses.  The Community Flyers are a pre-booked (not on-demand) and shared service providing door-to-door transport from home to the appointment.

Where do the Community Flyers travel to?

The Community Flyers provide services across Brisbane South, Logan and Redlands Cities and Townsville and surrounding areas.

What times do we travel?

The Community Flyers are out and about between 7.30am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.

Who can use the Community Flyers?

The Community Flyers can meet your needs if you are eligible but have difficulty traveling to appointments because you can no longer drive or safely use public transport.  You must still be able to travel independently or with your carer and be happy to travel in shared transport with others.

Can a carer come too?

A carer may accompany you as long as they can be picked up and dropped off at the same address. We charge half of the scheduled co-payment for carers.

Our staff and volunteers

It takes a special personality to excel behind the wheel of our Community Flyers and our welcoming staff and volunteers will help you stay connected to your community, ensuring that you can continue to visit your family and friends, get to your appointments and keep up with your social activities.

While highly competent and possessing clean driving records, our friendly team of drivers are also accredited first-aiders and trained in assisting our clients and their varying degree of needs.

They will help you get to where you need to be with the peace of mind that comes from being transported by people who love what they do.

Disability Services

Am I eligible for disability services?

You are eligible for our services if you are under 65 years of age, have a permanent and significant disability and qualify under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

What is the NDIS?

The NDIS is an insurance based scheme that can assist all Australians under the age of 65 who have a permanent and significant disability with services and supports to lead an ordinary life.

How does the NDIS work?

Once you have been assessed as meeting the eligibility criteria, you will meet with a planner to discuss your lifelong needs and goals.  You will be able to access all reasonable and necessary disability supports as agreed in your individual plan.  This means they are related to your disability and required for you to live independently in the community and to work towards achieving your goals and aspirations, over your lifetime.  Your plan will generally be in place for 12 months, however, if your needs change, you can ask for it to be reviewed.

Please advise your planner that TransitCare is  your preferred transport provider.

Are you starting your NDIS journey?

If you are just starting your NDIS journey, TransitCare can assist you through the process to help you:

  • Understand how the NDIS will work for you
  • See if you meet the eligibility criteria
  • Familiarise yourself with the jargon
  • Prepare for your planning meeting
  • Provide you with a statement of previous trips, if you are an existing client
  • Explain what supports may be available to you

Phone 1300 153 636 and talk to our TransitCare team today or visit www.ndis.gov.au for further, detailed information.

How can you ensure that TransitCare is your preferred transport provider?

We are a registered provider of Assist-Travel/Transport in the NDIS.  Once you receive your NDIS plan, you will also receive funding to pay for the transport included in your plan.

Remember to ask the planner for transport funding assistance for all of your activities.

How much will I pay?

I'd like to assist my loved one to remain independent

My loved one can no longer drive and relies on family members for transport

We understand that there will come a time when your loved one is no longer able to drive and must then rely on family and friends to provide much of the transportation. They may miss important medical appointments or go short on food and avoid social outings, rather than placing a burden on their family by asking for assistance to get out and about.

Finding a safe transport alternative, apart from yourself, may seem like an overwhelming challenge. It can also be difficult for well-meaning but busy families to find the time during the day to transport elderly family members to doctor appointments, shopping trips to the grocery store, pharmacy and other local errands.

We also assist Australians under the age of 65 who have a permanent and significant disability with services and supports to lead an ordinary life. People who meet eligibility criteria will be able to access all reasonable and necessary disability supports to live independently in the community and to work towards achieving their goals and aspirations, over their life time.

With transportation from TransitCare your family member can stay connected even when they lose the ability to drive. Sometimes this vital support service is their only connection to the outside world.

We can also connect them to others within the community and help them participate in community programmes, classes, workshops, events and much more, where they can interact with others with whom they can relate and make friends.

Our Drivers

The safety and the well-being of your loved one is our number one priority and our welcoming drivers and volunteers ensure that your loved ones can continue to visit family and friends, get to appointments and keep up with their social activities.

Our drivers will assist them to the vehicle and accompany them during every moment of their trip. When their trip is complete, we will get them back  home and settled in.  While highly competent and possessing clean driving records, our drivers are also accredited first-aiders and trained in assisting our clients and their varying degree of needs.

They will help your loved one get to where they need to be with the peace of mind that comes from being transported by people who love what they do.

They will be collected from their front door and driven to services such as the bank or post office, to hospital and medical appointments, the pharmacy, shopping, social and recreational outings, to the gym, swimming or the library, to the hairdresser, veterinary appointments, in fact, to anywhere that they need to go.  Once their outing is over, the driver will collect them and deliver them back home.

How do I access services for my family member?

Accessing services is a simple, two-step process:

  1. Call TransitCare on 1300 153 636.
  2. A TransitCare team member will be there to help you navigate through the process on behalf of your family member and will take you through each stage of the journey.
