Social Support Programme

TransitCare is so much more than community transport.  We offer fabulous social activities, a friendly and entertaining programme at TransitCare Head Office and more extended Community Flyer Adventures to interesting and beautiful locations. We also have our Men on the Move and Women who Wander which offer day trips featuring and activity and lunch.

We miss our regular, fun social outings and seeing all of our clients in here at TransitCare Head Office. We are also missing our Community Flyer Adventures and Men on the Move.  We were also looking forward to bringing you Women who Wander in 2020 and have some great locations planned for when our programme is no longer suspended.

Here’s a flashback to happier times, when we were altogether. We know that we will have fun together again soon!

Our Community Flyer Adventures have been suspended until the government gives us approval to recommence. Here are some flashbacks to our happy times and fabulous trips!

Men on the Move

Our Men on the Move have only been “on the road” since last July, but already, we have had some fabulous adventures. These include the Breakfast Creek Hotel, the Port of Brisbane, Brisbane Airport, the Lighthouse Restaurant at Cleveland and the Maritime Museum and Ship Inn. We look forward to recommencing these trips with you. In the meantime, please enjoy these happy memories.

Women who Wander

Women who Wander was planned to commence in 2020 but unfortunately, due to Coronavirus, this has also been postponed. However, we look forward to taking our women on some fabulous trips as soon as we are able to commence travelling again. Our first trip will be to the Samford Lifestyle Centre. Here are some photos of this beautiful venue.

50 Plus Fitter with Abby

Abby, our extraordinary Activities Coordinator is, as always a laugh and a bundle of fun!   Join in and keep fit as she runs through some regular exercises.

Armchair Travel

We have been in quarantine for a few weeks now and we are all a little tired of baking, especially since flour is another scarce commodity!  So instead of whipping up another batch of biscuits, why not take some time to travel the world from the comfort of your armchair!

Volunteers are the lifeblood of any organisation and as we celebrate National Volunteer Week, we put our hands up to thank all of our wonderful TransitCare volunteers by waving a smile of appreciation from afar. We can't see you in person, we can't thank and acknowledge and celebrate with you the way we usually do, but that doesn't mean that we aren't thinking about you and missing you all. We can't wait to see you on the other side!

We greatly value you all and how you selflessly give of your time to help our elderly clients and those with disabilities remain connected to their communities. Our organisation would not exist without you. THANK YOU TRANSITCARE VOLUNTEERS!!

National Volunteer Week (NVW) is the annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of volunteers across Australia. At this uncertain time it is important now, more than ever, to recognise and acknowledge you all. The theme this year is "Changing Communities. Changing Lives”.

International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world on 12 May each year, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth.

The theme for 2020, Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Nursing the World to Health, demonstrates how nurses are central to addressing a wide range of health challenges, and now most importantly, during the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.

The tireless work of Australia’s nurses has been recognised by the Federal Government, as part of International Nurses Day.

Minister for Aged Care and Senior Australians, Richard Colbeck, said more than 31,000 registered nurses and more than 18,000 enrolled nurses are working in aged care across Australia, caring for more than 1.2 million seniors. It is these nurses in particular who look after our valued TransitCare clients when they are ill, ensuring vital infection prevention and control processes are in place to better protect senior Australians in care from this virus.

“The nurses working across aged care are more important than ever,” Minister Colbeck said.

We at TransitCare would like to thank and acknowledge all of the amazing nurses, and in particular, those working in aged care, for their dedication and commitment in protecting our seniors and delivering outstanding frontline health care during these unforeseen times. #IND2020
