Social Support Programme

TransitCare is so much more than community transport.  We offer fabulous social activities, a friendly and entertaining programme at TransitCare Head Office and more extended Community Flyer Adventures to interesting and beautiful locations. We also have our Men on the Move and Women who Wander which offer day trips featuring and activity and lunch.

We miss our regular, fun social outings and seeing all of our clients in here at TransitCare Head Office. We are also missing our Community Flyer Adventures and Men on the Move.  We were also looking forward to bringing you Women who Wander in 2020 and have some great locations planned for when our programme is no longer suspended.

Here’s a flashback to happier times, when we were altogether. We know that we will have fun together again soon!

Women who Wander

Women who Wander was planned to commence in 2020 but unfortunately, due to Coronavirus, this has also been postponed. TransitCare Community Flyer

Today we enjoyed our inaugural Women Who Wander outing, a subsidiary group of our Community Flyer Adventures. Our female clients rebelled last year after we introduced our Men’s only group, Men on the Move, and gave us strong suggestions that they would like their own group to “wander at leisure and eat nice food”.

We loved our visit to the Samford Lifestyle Centre which included a home and giftware store, a plant nursery, pots, a baby animal farm, native bees, chicks in the City and, of course, morning tea on arrival and a two course lunch. A number of houses /retirement homes were redecorated today, as our very strong drivers Mark and Bill can attest (as they continued to carry all of the shopping back to our buses!) (not sure if Mark and Bill enjoyed the shopping as much as the girls! 😂)

Today is RUOK? Day, our national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask "Are you OK?" The message this year is "There's more to say after RUOK?"

For many older people, social isolation is a serious issue and many elderly Australians find themselves feeling lonely after they lose a spouse, friends their own age start to pass away, their children move away or they are placed in aged care.

At TransitCare our clients are always top of mind to us and we want to stay in touch with anyone feeling socially isolated, scared or vulnerable as they remain in their homes. It is important now, more than ever, that our TransitCare family remains connected.

If you are a client, remember, even during COVID-19, we have hygiene and safety practices in place and can take you shopping, pick up your prescription medications, take you to medical appointments and get you out and about to activities and social outings. (If you are feeling unwell or displaying any respiratory symptoms or have had a COVID-19 test and have not yet received the results, please do not book transport).

If you are unable to get out struggling with feelings of isolation and would like to talk to someone, please give our Contact Centre a call on 1300 153 636 and they can organise for someone to have a conversation with you. They can also get someone to check in with you on a regular day and time.

Asking a friend, family member, neighbour, or colleague ‘Are you okay?’ can make an immeasurable difference to that person's life. If you know of someone who says they are not OK, you can help them to feel supported and assist them to access appropriate help long before they are in a crisis, which can really make a positive difference to them. A simple conversation, encouraging action and continuing to check in can help change lives.

Further information can be found at www.ruok.org.au
